The Story of Triage Creative: From Field Assignments to a Full-Service Production Powerhouse
In the heart of Boulder, Colorado, Triage Creative has grown from a small, nimble collective of filmmakers into a sought-after production company delivering high-impact stories for clients around the world. Founded by Tommy Joyce alongside a core team of like-minded visual storytellers, Triage was built on a simple idea: combine the agility of expedition-style film making with the creative vision of top-tier commercial production.
The name Triage reflects the company’s roots in high-stakes, real-time storytelling. Early in Joyce’s career, assignments often meant working in challenging environments, from remote Himalayan peaks to the vast deserts of Africa, where priorities had to be set quickly and resources allocated with precision. That same mindset now guides the company’s commercial work: assessing the client’s goals, focusing on what matters most and delivering exceptional results under any conditions.
Beginnings in the Field
Before Triage had an office or a formal team, Joyce was shooting on assignment for major publications and brands, including National Geographic, Canon and Patagonia. His background in both still photography and cinematography gave him a unique versatility, enabling him to work seamlessly across formats.
In 2018, Joyce began collaborating with fellow creatives on multi-disciplinary projects that blended documentary authenticity with polished commercial production. These early partnerships planted the seeds for what would become Triage Creative. The group’s willingness to operate anywhere, whether 17,000 feet up on Dhaulagiri or aboard a bush plane in the Okavango Delta, quickly became a hallmark of their work.

Formalizing the Vision
By 2020, demand for their combined expertise had grown. Joyce and Ladzinski formalized the partnership under the Triage Creative name, establishing Boulder as the company’s base. Boulder’s unique positioning, close to both cutting-edge outdoor brands and world-class natural environments, made it an ideal hub for a production company specializing in adventure, lifestyle and conservation storytelling.
From the start, Triage was designed as a full-service creative agency capable of handling concept development, production, post-production and delivery in-house. The team brought together directors, cinematographers, editors, producers, and field specialists, each with a deep resume in both commercial and editorial work.
Community and Boulder Roots
Even as Triage’s work takes them across continents, the company remains deeply tied to Boulder’s creative and entrepreneurial community. They frequently collaborate with other local agencies, photographers and outdoor industry innovators, contributing to Boulder’s reputation as a hub for world-class creative talent.
The city’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains also provides a constant testing ground for gear, techniques and storytelling ideas. For the team, Boulder isn’t just home, it’s an extension of their creative process.
Signature Style and Client Roster
Triage Creative’s style blends cinematic polish with a deep respect for authentic moments. This approach has attracted a diverse client roster, from global outdoor brands to nonprofit conservation organizations . Campaigns have ranged from high-adrenaline product launches to intimate character-driven narratives.
Notable projects include commercial campaigns for Canon highlighting their flagship camera systems in extreme environments, branded documentary work for luxury safari operator ROAR AFRICA and expedition coverage for apparel companies like Eddie Bauer.
Looking Ahead
Today, Triage Creative continues to evolve, guided by its founding principles - agility, authenticity and excellence. The company is expanding its commercial portfolio while maintaining its commitment to conservation storytelling. Upcoming projects span from cinematic brand campaigns to long-form documentaries, each reflecting the team’s core belief that powerful visuals can inspire real-world change.
For clients, Triage offers more than just production services. They bring a proven track record of delivering under pressure, a global network of collaborators and a genuine passion for telling stories that matter. Whether capturing a sunrise over the Luangwa River or launching a global ad campaign, the team’s mission remains the same, to transform ideas into visuals that resonate deeply and endure.
Years of Shared Assignments
Over the years, filmmaker and photographer Tommy Joyce has honed a deep and enduring passion for wildlife, a passion shaped and amplified through his collaborations with longtime friend and mentor Keith Ladzinski.
From their first joint expeditions, it was clear the two shared an appetite for the unknown. Together they navigated environments ranging from the windswept plains of Africa to the icebound reaches of the polar north, always with cameras in hand and an unwavering focus on the natural world. These journeys were rarely simple. Reaching the right location at the right time often meant days of travel, harsh weather, and long hours in the field. Yet it was in these demanding conditions that Joyce’s connection to wildlife deepened most.
Working alongside Ladzinski, known for his ability to anticipate the fleeting moments that define a species’ character, Joyce learned to combine patience, instinct and technical mastery. Whether waiting for the perfect light to frame a herd of elephants in Botswana or capturing the silent glide of a puma in Patagonia, he came to see wildlife photography as both art and responsibility.
That responsibility extends beyond the frame. Joyce’s work now frequently supports conservation-focused organizations, using compelling imagery to inspire action.
